Jim Benham built our house a little over two years ago, and I have to say that he was the most conscientious and quality minded person I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. There were a number of sheets of plywood on the roof that delaminated when the home was being built. Jim made them replace every single sheet of plywood on the roof, not just the two that warped. He was concerned that it was a bad run of plywood, and that the others may eventually delaminate also. He also upgraded our rear stairs and didn’t charge me an extra dime for it because he thought it would be a more proper look for the house. I’ve never dealt with another business of any type that came close to the level of service and daily communication that Jim provided. If you could give ten stars, he’d be an eleven!!!

When we decided to renovate our master bedroom and bath suite we immediately thought of Jim and Jean at Benham Builders, and from the start it was a collaborative effort utilizing our vision and their design expertise. We could not be happier with the result! We enjoyed working with Jim and Jean and their team of quality contractors to select the perfect fixtures and materials to see our vision realized. We appreciated Jim’s professionalism and calm throughout. He presented us with a project timeline, so that we had a clear understanding of the schedule from beginning to end of the project. True to his word, Jim completed the project in the time promised. If the need ever arises again for us to renovate or build, we know we would turn to Jim at Benham Builders!

My wife and I felt comfortable
We moved to Charlotte in 1999 and bought a home in the Piper Glen community. After two years we had the urge to build a new home, and we were extremely fortunate to be introduced to Jean and Jim Benham. During our first meeting with Jim and Jean, my wife and I felt comfortable with their experience in building, their knowledge of the neighborhood, and most importantly their excellent reputations. Shortly after meeting them and looking at some house plans, a lot became available and Jim purchased it for us. We moved forward with the plans. It seems in retrospect to be the easiest project we have undertaken. We have built, finished and bought/sold several homes over the years. The process with Jim was seamless. He hired and managed only the best subcontractors. I recall one sub that did not perform well, and he was quickly replaced with another who finished the job. All phases of the construction process were completed on time and within budget. We found Jim to be a perfectionist with an eye for detail that we had not experienced before. Oh, and I forgot to mention, Jean sold the home we were living in within about 60 days. They are a great team. As we are considering downsizing as we become “empty nesters”, I have already begun talking to Jim about our next project.

We have been customers/friends with Jim Benham and Benham Builders for 8 years now. We have used Jim’s company for several different projects over the years ranging from large to small and indoor to outdoor. What brings us back to him whenever we are in need of a home improvement or for a new build, is his willingness to listen to what we “really” want, his excellent delivery in quality workmanship, and mostly his integrity in his relationships. Our refinished basement is one of the favorite jobs Benham Builders completed for us. It was completed in an incredibly timely manner and well done. Experienced builder who tells it like it is
When we initially made the decision to build in Beaufort, SC, we hired a local architect and shared our dream for a low country home. The problem was he did EVERYTHING we asked without providing practical input. Having seen Benham’s work throughout the area, I asked Jim for a favor with one catch: “Simply provide your real input based on what you see, applying your years of building expertise.”
Jim looked at the plan and quickly made some sensible and exciting initial suggestions. We then had a new plan developed, approved it, and we began the building process. As with any project there are obstacles, but nothing rattled Jim or his knowledgeable son, Jimmy. They kept me informed, did their best to contain costs and, most importantly, they built our home as though it truly was there own. The attention to detail is such that every day I find a new surprise previously unnoticed.
If you want an experienced builder who tells it like it is and has incredible vision and taste, for me, Benham Builders is the only choice to consider. Lastly, our experience was so positive that if we were to build again, we would only make one phone call.

We originally worked with Jim and his team while flooring over our 2-story great room to create a new space upstairs. Personally grateful for Benham Builders
I am personally grateful for having Jim Benham of Benham Builders as the builder for our home.
My husband and I had purchased several homes but never built one ourselves. This was an enormous undertaking for me, and frankly I was quite overwhelmed with all the decisions which had to be made. Jim Benham was so knowledgeable about every aspect of the building process. He was absolutely wonderful to work with, professional, patient, and extremely helpful. He was on site every day, he was always accessible, and to this day, he still supports and stands by his work. It’s a wonderful thing to have a contractor answer his phone when you call him, and seven years after construction of our beautiful home, Jim still answers when I call!
My husband and I receive compliments on our home every time we have guests. Even our best friends, who have been in our home many times over the years, still marvel at its beauty. We are now considering downsizing and building a smaller home in the next few years, but in all honesty, I would not consider building another home unless Jim was our contractor.
